Prince Battles His Faith and Modern Medicine Regarding An Alleged Hip Replacement Surgery

Prince battle growing older and his faith, The purple spendor still has it but can he move like he used too? Right now Prince needs an alleged hip replacement, but is refusing it because of his Jehovah’s Witness beliefs. Will Prince keep to his faith or do what is needed to keep walking?
This is where faith and medicine cross the fine line and a person is made to make a choice that will effect their life forever. No more hot women and six inch heels! The Purple One’s Jehovah’s Witness beliefs prevent him from accepting blood transfusions – making an alleged double hip replacement operation impossible
Sign o’ the times … Prince is allegedly refusing a hip replacement operation.
Will Prince be forced to choose between his faith and his health? Persistent hip problems are affecting the Purple One’s mobility, according to reports, and his religious beliefs are preventing surgery.
As a Jehovah’s Witness, Prince has allegedly refused blood transfusions – making a double hip replacement operation impossible.
“He’s in a lot of pain,” a source told the Hollywood Report’s Showbiz 411 blog this week. “[Prince] is popping pain killers and hoping it will all go away.”
Prince’s hip problems were first reported in 2005, and in 2007 and 2008 rumours emerged of “secret surgery”. But there is no sign that the singer has gone under the knife.
Bloggers have pointed to two recent appearances – at a Tony awards party and a bash for the 75th anniversary of the Apollo Theatre – where Prince came with a diamond-studded cane. The 51-year-old needed the stick “to keep him upright”, Showbiz 411 reported.
It should be noted, however, that Prince has been toting canes since at least the early 1990s.

Here is what one eyewitness reported on June 6, 2009:

After reading this now I know I saw Prince last Saturday (June 6) at La Guardia airport in NY. He was dressed all in black with a black hat and limping, I think on his right leg. He was walking with a cane, but he was moving quickly. I’ve tried to find something online about him having an injury to see if that really was him and now I know it was. I also read that Sunday was his birthday; hope he had a good one!

Author E. Lynn Harris dies at age 54

Long before the secret world of closeted black gay men came to light in America, bestselling author E. Lynn Harris introduced a generation of black women to the phenomenon known as the "down low."
Harris endeared such characters to readers who were otherwise unfamiliar with them, using themes and backdrops familiar to urban professionals, conditioned by their upbringings, their church leaders or their friends to condemn and criticize homosexuality in the African-American community. A proud Razorback cheerleader at the University of Arkansas who struggled with his own sexuality before becoming a pioneer of gay black fiction, Harris died Thursday at age 54 while promoting his latest book in Los Angeles.
Publicist Laura Gilmore said Harris died Thursday night after being stricken at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, and a cause of death had not been determined. She said Harris, who lived in Atlanta, fell ill on a train to Los Angeles a few days ago and blacked out for a few minutes, but seemed fine after that.
An improbable and inspirational success story, Harris worked for a decade as an IBM executive before taking up writing, selling the novel "Invisible Life" from his car as he visited salons and beauty parlors around Atlanta. He had unprecedented success for an openly gay black author and his strength as a romance writer led some to call him the "male Terry McMillan."
In 15 years, Harris became the genre's most successful author, penning 11 titles, ten of them New York Times bestsellers. More than four million of his books are in print.
McMillan had just spoken to Harris about a week ago, to tell him she would pay tribute to him in her upcoming book by having a character read one of his titles, "And This Too Shall Pass."
"He was thrilled," McMillan said. "I loved his spirit and generosity. I loved that he found his own niche in the world of fiction, and I'm grateful to have known him. This just breaks my heart."
He went on to mainstream success with works such as the novel "Love of My Own" and the memoir "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted."
Harris' storytelling fell into several categories, including gay and lesbian fiction, African American fiction and urban fiction. But he found success in showing readers a new side of African American life: the secret world of professional, bisexual black men living as heterosexuals.
His readers, many of them young black, professional women of dating age, were fascinated and shocked to learn that the men in their lives could be attracted to other men. Harris' vivid storytelling — at least somewhat grounded in his reality and of others whom he knew — pulled back the curtain for some and held up the mirror for others.
"He was a pioneering voice within the black LGBT community, but also resonated with mainstream communities, regardless of race and sexual orientation," said Herndon Davis, a gay advocate and a diversity media consultant in Los Angeles. "Harris painted with eloquent prose and revealing accuracy the lives of African American men and the many complicated struggles they faced reconciling their sexuality and spirituality while rising above societal taboos within the black community."
For years, he was alone in exposing the "down low," but the phenomenon exploded into mainstream culture in 2004, a decade after "Invisible Life." That year, J.L. King's "On the Down Low: A Journey Into the Lives of 'Straight' Black Men Who Sleep With Men" hit bookstores and the author appeared on Oprah Winfrey's TV show.
Harris' 1994 debut, "Invisible Life," was a coming-of-age story that dealt with the then-taboo topic.
"If you were African American and you were gay, you kept your mouth shut and you went on and did what everybody else did," Harris said in an interview last year. "You had girlfriends, you lived a life that your parents had dreamed for you."
Harris was born in Flint, Mich., in 1955 and raised in Little Rock, Ark. He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he was the school's first black yearbook editor, the first black male Razorbacks cheerleader and president of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He graduated with honors with a degree in journalism.
Harris worked in corporate America for 13 years at IBM, Hewlett-Packard and At&T before quitting a career in sales to become an author. He was not living as an openly gay man when "Invisible Life" was published, and could not acknowledge the parallels between himself and the book.
"People would often ask, 'Is this book about you?' I didn't want to talk about that," he said. "I wasn't comfortable talking about it. I would say that this is a work of fiction."
Harris said that the courage readers got from the book empowered him to be honest about himself. He continued to tell stories dealing with similar issues, to tell black middle class readers about people they knew, but who were living secret lives.
Tilia Parks read "Invisible Life" as a 16-year-old and was moved by the struggle of someone so close to her own age.
"I loved the truthfulness of it," said Parks, now 26, of Atlanta. "I'd never heard that point of view, of a guy finding himself and his sexuality at such a young age."
Parks had looked forward to the next plot twist for the book's main character, Raymond Tyler, who reappeared in subsequent titles has not been in Harris' more recent works. With Harris' death, Parks is saddened that his story may be gone.
"Loyal readers were looking for that," Parks said. "I'm so sad. I was waiting for him to come back around and start talking about Raymond."

E. Lynn Harris Another Special Spirit Is Gone

I received this email from Nubian Dreams this morning. I wanted to share it with everyone.

The entire Nubian Dreams family is sad to report the untimely death of E. Lynn Harris. He was on his book tour for Basketball Jones. The last time we talked we discussed having E. Lynn on the cruise to headline our Nubian Dreams Cruise 3 Literary Forum. He was as sweet as ever.E. Lynn Harris was a gentleman and a giving man. We met 15 years ago after I read "Invisible Life." I was blown away. Wanted to help him get the movie made. It is still an important book with an important message. Back then I had a talent management company in 1994 with a African American female attorney in Beverly Hills. We were full of dreams then. Anyway, when we met E. Lynn we had a wonderful lunch and intense conversation about the state of the business and how difficult it would be to get a black gay movie made. funny how things have changed right? That was 15 years ago. We were both direct and fair businessmen although we could not agree on terms. Every time we saw each other the warmth and respect still remained.E. Lynne gave so much to the world. His books and plays opened our world to the straight African American community with dignity and honor. He made it possible for a gay, bi-sexual man or women to open a truthful discussion others about their sexuality partners and others. The African American women could no longer say that they didn't know about our world. He illustrated how beautiful it could be for men to really love each other as well as playing each other. It would be a great tribute E. Lynn Harris if each of us would write one letter to a TV Network, Film Distributor or Literary Agency to demand that our stories be told. Ask them where are our films? Why are they not financed or distributed? The next legend might not have to die before seeing his or her work on screen. We will miss him.Rest In Peace E. Lynn Harris

Chico DeBarge And Joe Continue The Summer Of Slow Jams At Album Release Party

By Selina Kaye
Last night I went to the Joe/Chico DeBarge album release party in New York City. Both Chico Debarge's new album Addiction and Joe's record Signature hit stores this week, and they each performed their classic hits while introducing new music to an intimate audience. It was so refreshing to hear music dedicated to women, to hear a man sing how much he appreciates and values us for who we are. For a short time we were missing that in the music game, especially considering the dearth of soul men these days. Where were the gentlemen of music? We did get a taste of it from artists like Ne-Yo and Musiq Soulchild, but it seems like those guys were few and far between. They have shown that it is cool to hold open the door for a woman again. And with Maxwell topping the charts and Ginuwine and Al B. Sure also dropping new music after long absences, women get to hear plenty of sweet, soothing voices.
Chico DeBarge is the younger brother of the group DeBarge from the 1980s. He came on stage with a cool, confident demeanor and drove the ladies crazy. He started his career in the late '80s and had success with his rugged good looks and smooth songs.
Joe sang his classic ballads, topped by his heart-melting classics "If I Was Your Man" and "All the Things (Your Man Won't Do)." He struck quite a silhouette in a sexy gray and burgundy three-piece suit, and the women in the audience hung on his every note. Hearing both these sexy R&B singers make you appreciate good sensual, romantic music.

The Wendy Williams Show And Vivica A. Fox

I went to The Wendy Williams Show today, unfortunately I was not able to get in to see the show. I personally think the way the show handled the ticket distribution was very disorganized and not well thought out. The people who was not allowed to show, was able to watch the show on television in the How You Doing? Lounge. You would have thought they would have had a nice size flat screen television, but no instead they had a 19 inch television and they served us some Dunken Donuts Munchies. The worst part of it all everyone was kicked out right after the Vivica A. Fox segment. The only good thing that came out of it was that i got to meet Vivica A. Fox, I said to her Vivica put that where?, She responded back there. To all those who may not understand that that is Vivica's line that she says. Vivica that made my all the time i wasted out there worth it and i thank you.Wendy I hope that teh show will be better organized in the future.

Note: Wendy Williams has 6 more days at WBLS and then there is no more Wendy Williams Experience. You read it correct 6 days left for Wendy at WBLS.

Michael Jackson's Last Days Depicted In Rolling Stone

People who worked with Jackson say he was determined to make a comeback.
By Kyle Anderson

Following up on their Michael Jackson tribute issue, Rolling Stone has put the pop star on the cover for the second consecutive issue. The cover story, called "Michael Jackson's Final Days," delves deep into the events that led up to Jackson's death on June 25, including preparations for his This Is It concerts in London and his attempts to reorganize his life into something a little more inconspicuous. The piece visits Jackson's rehearsal spaces (there were a total of three) and quotes the people who surrounded the singer at the end of his life, including session musicians, security guards and promoters. "They seemed like they'd be the people who would have the least amount of spin," writer Claire Hoffman says in a video on the magazine's Web site. "Everybody was saying that he was really, really into this. He was so pumped about doing this tour. He wanted it to be the greatest show on Earth."
According to the article, Jackson had become well aware of the public's perception of him, and the London concerts were consciously meant to be a comeback that would re-establish Jackson as a great musician rather than a tabloid icon. "He wanted people to see his work and not just talk about his lifestyle," said AEG CEO Randy Phillips, who also told Rolling Stone that Jackson had intended on settling down in Las Vegas once the shows were completed. Multiple sources — including Grammy Awards producer Ken Ehrlich — said that Jackson's rehearsals were awe-inspiring. "I got chills, literally," he told the magazine.
The story, which hits newsstands Wednesday (July 22), paints a picture of Jackson as an artist who knew he had fallen off a bit and was determined to reclaim his place. Many people surrounding Jackson believed that the concerts would have indeed resurrected his career, but the public will be able to decide for themselves when Sony Pictures releases a film in October pieced together from more than 80 hours of Jackson rehearsal footage. Sony spent almost $60 million in a bidding war for the footage, which also features at least three new music videos — including an alternate version of Jackson's legendary "Thriller."

Ne-Yo And The Tranney

After years of speculation and denials it appears R&B singer NeYo finally slipped up! This is a photo NeYo took himself with a cameraphone, as you can see the background appears to be an intimate setting in a home with dim lighting, he and his new girlfriend are chest to chest, she's carressing his neck and he's virtually picking her up off the ground with a big grin on his face that appears to be saying "Yea i'm gay but you'll never find out because she looks like a woman!". That's right! The girl in the picture isn't a girl at all! As a matter of fact this transgendered escort doesn't even have breasts! It's a teen black boy with a weave!! I guess Ne-Yo got tired of people hounding him about his sexuality and with all the hoopla surrounding the topic I would imagine it was probably difficult for him to associate with guys to get his fill of D*CK so he found a quick fix... a TRANNY! Now he can get dick and still be on the low! OR ATLEAST HE THOUGHT! LOL WOW!! Alright Ner-yo tits on your back and dick in your a** what combination !! lmao!! Prince Closes Out Montreux Jazz Fest

July 20, 2009 09:46 AM ET
Stephanie Nebehay, Reuters
Prince fans from across Europe converged on Montreux for two shows by the American musician whose rare appearance on the continent stretched well into Sunday morning. The 51-year-old star closed the two-week Swiss Montreux Jazz Festival with a mix of old hits including "Little Red Corvette," "Peach" and "Purple Rain" and fresh titles such as "Elixir" from his new album with singer Bria Valente.Wearing a bright red suit, geometric gold necklace, and red and white platform shoes, the artist appeared on stage with his red guitar, bathed in his trademark purple light."Montreux, thank you," Prince said, as he blew a kiss to the crowd before kicking off an encore with "Insatiable."Some 8,000 tickets for his two back-to-back concerts, priced up to $480 each, sold out in a record eight minutes when his only European booking this summer was announced just days after the death of Michael Jackson.
Prince performed a jazzy version of the song "In a Large Room With No Light" for both shows in Montreux, which organizers praised as a "groovy mix of soul, jazz and funk."Changing into a metallic grey outfit, he closed the second show with "Purple Rain," a chart-topper marking its 25th year.John Blackwell (drums), Rhonda Smith (bass) and Renato Net and Morris Hayes (both on keyboards) accompanied Prince at Stravinski Auditorium.Claude Nobs, founder of the festival in its 43rd annual edition, told fans cheering in vain for a second encore: "The jazz set he created here tonight has never been performed elsewhere."Prince made his only other appearance at the legendary jazz festival along Lake Geneva two years ago, showing up at 3 a.m. to jam with his band at a free cafe.Smith, his Canadian bassist and vocalist, said that the 2007 experience had convinced Prince to accept the return booking."It's the love of the European public. He had a great time last time. There is a lot of respect, a relaxing feel and a very high artistic level," Smith told the Swiss daily Le Matin."It's like nowhere else," she said.

"This was a very different show," said Patrick O'Keeffe, from Ireland. "He rarely plays with just three band members, normally it is much bigger band with brass and horns and sax."Alessandro Rossi drove from Italy to catch the Grammy- and Academy- winner from Minneapolis. Rossi, in a purple t-shirt with "Prince" on the back, said: "Prince is always number one."
